New to Therapy?

New things can be scary so why not be as prepared as we can! When you reach out, we can either set up a free 15 minute consultation call or go ahead and schedule an hour long intake session. We will talk about scheduling and insurance before we dive into your goals for therapy.

When working with kids and teens, the first session will include one or more parents. Parent involvement is essential in therapy — however this looks different for every family. I am pretty flexible here — sometimes we check in at the end of every session, sometimes we have joint sessions every month and sometimes we just consult via email (more for my older teens).

Another important note about our work is that you or your child will never feel uncomfortable without your/their consent. When working with grief, anxiety, OCD, depression — we have to confront some scary and uncomfortable stuff. However for therapy to be effective, there has to be a baseline of security for us to confront these things. If/when you or your child does feel uncomfortable, it will be because you are ready to do the hard work of therapy, feel safe in our therapy space and have the tools to manage the feelings.

No question is too easy, so feel free to reach out with any questions!
